Well-known by many as one of the best golf values in Central Oregon, Quail Run Golf Course in La Pine provides a fun and fair test to players of all caliber, at an affordable price. Located just fifteen miles south of Sunriver Resort, the journey to Quail Run may feel a bit off the beaten path, but it is a trip well worth the time and effort.
Measuring over 6,800 yards from the tips, and a manageable 5,400 yards from the forward tees, Quail Run is the quintessential high desert golf experience. Many of the holes appear to be carved straight out of the native pine forest, with sage underbrush and surrounding landscape eager to snatch errant drives. In and amongst the trees, however, spectacular views of neighboring Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, and the Cascade Range can be enjoyed.
Playing to a par 72, and situated at an elevation of over 4,000 feet, finding the right combination of distance and control is a pre-requisite for success at Quail Run. As many of the tree-lined fairways will attest, accuracy off the tee is critical. The putting surfaces offer a fair test of skill without being tricky, and the judicious use of bunkering to frame the fairway and green complexes bring an aesthetic appeal to a layout already loaded with natural beauty.
In addition to the golf course, Quail Run offers an extensive practice facility, with a large driving range and practice chipping/putting green/bunker complex available for use by the public. With so much to offer at a reasonable price, planning a summer golf trip to Quail Run should be on the short list of any golfer visiting Central Oregon.
