One of metro Portland’s oldest and most established golf venues, Glendoveer Golf and Tennis offers activities for traditionalist as well as more forward-thinking golf enthusiasts. Originally opened in 1928, Glendoveer features two eighteen-hole courses as well as full service practice and teaching facilities.
The East Course is viewed by most as the more difficult test, with its added length and tree-lined fairways, while the West Course welcomes beginners and intermediate players alike on a layout that is shorter and more forgiving off the tee. Both courses are very straightforward in their design, with much of the facility’s relatively flat terrain making for an enjoyable walk (or ride).
Newer to Glendoveer is an eighteen-hole “FootGolf” course, which is incorporated into the design of the existing West Course. For the uninitiated, FootGolf is a form of golf in which players kick a soccer ball into an oversized cup in as few shots as possible. Upon its debut in May 2014, Glendoveer became the first course in the Pacific Northwest to offer an official FootGolf venue. Judging by the format’s recent surge in popularity, Glendoveer Golf and Tennis has fully embraced a new and innovative way to introduce new players to the game. – Chris Rogers
